I tend to start with a simple idea, but as I go on it progresses into something so complicated that I have trouble writing and\/or finishing stories. I've tried starting with the ending first however this was of no avail because then I had difficulty creating the beginning, haha. Maybe try using the characters memories to explain the important points that the reader needs to understand the ending. I found this really helpful when writing short stories for assignments and things.
